Closet Confidential

I recently read an article on New York model/mom/humanitarian/stylist Mary Alice Stephenson.  This "it" girl is one of the countries most sought after beauty and style experts, and she has the resume to prove it...
When you are the girl of the moment, of course everyone wants to see your closet.  Her closet is a converted third floor to her Brooklyn brownstone...
her closet is styled as well as her A list clients...

Everything has a place...

and she coordinates her clothing by color and category...

Girl Friday

We have a pretty low key weekend at chez BL.  The hubs is off to NOLA for jazz fest with some friends (hmm I smell a girls weekend in my future)  Lucky for me, hubs knows how to leave in style.  A Bliss pop up just opened, so he is sending me off for an oxygen facial before he leaves.  I have heard these facials are amazing

Saturday night, I am meeting a friend for dinner at a new restaurant that a friend of my brother in law just opened.  This is his second restaurant in STL, if this one is anything like his first, I will not be disappointed...

Sunday after my niece's first communion, we are off to a piano competition...
Hopefully at sometime I can squeeze in a little organizing of closets, hanging some pictures, and the dreadful task of laundry.

Have a beautiful weekend!!

Pearls of Wisdom

My son will be going to a new school in the Fall, and yesterday I was invited to a "new mom" luncheon for all the mother's of the new incoming class.  I was a little nervous,  I did not know any of these new ladies, but I decided I was going to go. If we can send my child to a new school where he knows no one then surely I can go to a champagne luncheon at a beautiful country club, plus my hair was done from my party.

At this lunch we were given some suggestions about affirming our sons (his new school is all boys)  I just had to share because this really touched me, and I think this is so so very important for sons and daughters.  Even if your child is not close to being a teenager I hope this stays with you, because time is fleeting.

1. Ask his advice, this is very affirming to teenage men.

2. Say "thank you", "I appreciate that" or "that was kind of you"  He may not respond or may reject this compliment but say it anyway.

3. If someone else says something positive about your son, repeat it to him.  This is second hand affirmation, he may not react much but he is hearing it.

4. All teenage boys want to be funny.  A sign of a good mother-son relationship is a boy who can make his mother laugh.  Find ways to laugh with your son.

5. Affirmation notes- put up work you son did on the fridge to show it off.  Younger children like this.  Older boys act like it is stupid, do it anyway.

6. Hugs- hug your son.  He may not give much in the way of returning the hug, but hug him anyway.

I ended up having a great time and meeting lots of new ladies, I hope this is a sign of good things to come for my son.

Big Blow Out

Tonight I am going to a blow out party.  My friend is hosting this party at her salon.  The invitation said everyone should come with clean dry hair, our own hair dryer...

any styling tools...
and our brush...

We will all be taught the proper way to blow/style our hair, what works best for us, the best products to use, and any trade secrets they wish to share. Hopefully I will leave tonight with the ability to do this with my hair any time...

Fashion Star

When Nichole Richie first arrived on the social scene she was a complete and utter mess...
unfortunately, back then she was only known for hard partying and drugs...
absolutely no sense of style...

and her infamous best friend...

I would say she hit rock bottom in 2007 when she was arrested

Luckily for Nicole, rehab was her second chance to start over. She reappeared in the public eye in 2008, painfully skinny, but drug free...
She dumped her druggie boyfriend, left her troubled friend, started a jewelry line, fell in love, had a baby, started a clothing line, put on a few pounds, got married, had another baby, and made a life for herself...
and now I think she is stunning....
and has amazing style...

She is also one of the judges of the new show Fashion Star.  I love to watch just to see what she is wearing...
One of my favorite pieces from the show has been sold out since day 1...

Girl Friday

Tonight my weekend begins with a Trivia Night fundraiser at my children's school...

for me its not about the trivia, it is about a night with friends, the food...
and the wine...

Saturday, I am meeting a friend at the History Museum Restaurant, which has one of the best brunches in the city, and I might even get a bonus history lesson...

Saturday night is the couples shower for my cousin and his bride to be, I hope my goodie boxes turn out...

I am excited for Sunday, I recently tried Origins night cream for the first time and LOVED it.  I have been using La Mer during the day, but at night I was not married to any specific moisturizer.  After using the High-Potency Night-A-Mins from a free sample, I knew I had found the one...
This Sunday, which also happens to be Earth Day, our Origins is giving a full size, day moisturizer to anyone that brings an empty beauty product to be recycled.  This does not have to be an empty Origins container, anything from any beauty/skincare line...
Sunday night the hubs will be returning from a weekend of debauchery in NYC for his brother's bachelor party.  Nothing like coming home to a good dinner!
Have a beautiful weekend!

A Night with the Girls

Tonight I am meeting my friends to try out a new restaurant. This restaurant has the very basic concept of making your own pizza exactly how you want, and I mean exactly...

choose your dough...
choose your sauce and cheese...
choose your toppings...

choose your wine

enjoy your customized pizza..
and your drink too!!

Party Time

Pinterest, hands down, is one of the best websites to find inspiration. When my mother announced she was throwing a shower for my cousin, who is getting married in June, I jumped at the chance to help out. I have been busy working on these "thank you" gifts as the guests leave the big party this Saturday night.A little carrying box with 2 Krispy Kreme donuts and 2 containers of milk. In case of the late night, post party munchies. Love it!!

Top Bun

I am officially obsessed with the top bun...This is a very easy hairstyle to achieve and perfect for the days when you have no time for a hair wash. Simply put your hair in a high pony tail, wrap and pin until you have a bun...
the messy look...

or the sleek look (which might require a little more practice)Add a headband for a little something extra...
My favorite Carrie Bradshaw look....
I really miss that show!!
